Cambodia - Sihanoukville, Kampot Province

Sihanoukville, officially Cambodia's second city, is in stark contrast to the main travellers stops. Whereas the temples of Siem Reap & Angkor are the country's top tourist draw and Phnom Penh is the lively capital, Sihanoukville is where you can find unspoiled beaches and a relaxed atmosphere.

Since the border with Thailand opened for travellers at Koh Kong in 1998, Sihanoukville has seen a steady increase in visitors yet there is still a certain small town feel.

Foreign faces still draw smiles and stares and the beach areas are in part still fairly undeveloped, offering simply sand, surf and a few seaside stalls. However the growing number of travellers coming in from Thailand has seen a host of budget places open up on Weather Station Hill and Serendipity Beach is now a popular haunt.
