Angkor
Wat

|
Built by King Suryavarman II in the middle of the 12th century over a period of about 30 years, Angkor Wat has distinct Hindu influences. The Central Tower represents Mount Meru, the centre of the universe according to Hindu mythology. The temple grounds are surrounded by a wall and a moat and the main entrance path is a half km street ornamented with balustrades and artificial lakes. This entryway resembles the rainbow bridge in Hindu mythology, the link between heaven and earth.
As one of the ancient wonders, it's longevity is due to continual use and maintenance since becoming a Buddhist temple in the early 15th century...The Temples of Angkor >>> |
